Football fans are apologising to former England Women international Eni Aluko after slamming her theory about Arsenal and Man City’s pursuit of Declan Rice.
Aluko had said that Manchester City are not interested in Rice, suggesting that City manager Pep Guardiola and Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta are playing games about the Cityzens’ interest for the England international.
Aluko, who spoke to talkSPORT, opined that Arteta’s prior connection with Pep Guardiola in their bid for Rice, alluding to her role as a sporting director:
The former England striker explained why she does not think City’s interest in Rice is genuine.
“I don’t think Manchester City actually want to sign Declan Rice.
“I think what’s going on here is Arteta picked up the phone to Pep, said,” ‘Listen, you know, Arsenal are going to do the sort of incremental bid approach. If you put a higher bid in, that will push my owner to…’ I think there’s a bit of that going on here.”
And yet, lo and behold, Man City pulled out of the Rice race this morning, suggesting she was right all along.
Aluko’s name then quickly began trending on Twitter, with one fan writing: “Humble apologies for doubting Eni Aluko. She was cooking.”
And the former footballer and director of football had her say, too.
