Brighton and Ajax have held preliminary talks about signing Rangers’ highly rated Calvin Bassey.
The versatile defender is also attracting interest from Serie A and the Bundesliga, with at least seven clubs keeping tabs on him.
Bassey was also a target for former Liverpool manager Steven Gerrard, who is now at Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports News in May.
Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder is said to have spoken with Bassey over the phone and was impressed, with the Dutch club preparing a formal bid to replace Lisandro Martinez, who is set to join Manchester United.
Rangers are unconcerned about interest in the Nigerian international and will not entertain any bids unless they exceed £20 million, according to one source, with any deal breaking the all-time Scottish record of £25 million set when Kierney joined Arsenal from Celtic.
