Mykhailo Mudryk is a long-term transfer target for Arsenal, and they have made their first formal offer.
The Shakhtar Donetsk winger has long caught the attention of the Arsenal, who have now made an offer that is thought to be worth around £55 million with add-ons.
Arsenal is determined to sign the Ukraine international during the January transfer window as they look to bolster their attacking options in the wake of Gabriel Jesus’ injury. Shakhtar have publicly valued the 21-year-old at around £90m and are expected to reject the offer.
Coach Mikel Arteta expressed his desire to close deals early in the transfer window before Arsenal’s Boxing Day match with West Ham in the Premier League.
“We knew the importance of getting players early in the summer and that is what we want to do in January,” Arteta said. “This is idealistic but sometimes it is not realistic. Obviously, if you ask my opinion, as quick as possible we want the players in.”
Arsenal’s top target in January is Mudryk, and this early offer demonstrates their seriousness. Although they fall far short of Shakhtar’s very public valuation of Mudryk, they will be optimistic that a deal can be finalized in the coming weeks because the player is eager to move to north London.
On Monday night, the Gunners play West Ham with the goal of moving seven points clear atop the Premier League.
