After playing a key role in Thursday’s Carabao Cup victory for Manchester City over Liverpool, Erling Haaland exuded happiness.
The Norwegian had to wait more than four weeks for club football to resume, and even appeared in a Sky Sports commercial prior to the start of the domestic season. However, it didn’t take long for him to pick up where he left off.
Despite being twice beaten by Liverpool, City won 3-2 thanks to an early goal from Haaland. Nathan Ake’s header in the 58th minute made the difference between the two teams. Haaland posted on Twitter following the win to say: “We back, stronger than ever!”
At the Etihad, two of recent England’s best teams squared off in a classic match. City eliminated the defending champions in the last-16. With a textbook strike in the opening minutes, Haaland didn’t appear to be at all rusty, which is bad news for opposing defenses as Pep Guardiola’s team looks to win their third consecutive Premier League championship and fifth in six years.
Haaland will be hoping to participate when his team returns to Premier League action on December 28 when they travel to Leeds United after playing a significant role in City’s Carabao Cup victory.
