Qatar 2022: Harry Kane misses penalty as France squeeze through with a 2-1 win over England

Harry Kane

England was eliminated from the World Cup after Harry Kane missed the biggest penalty of his life against France, which would have tied the score.

After a protracted VAR review, England was given a second penalty. After snagging one just 30 minutes earlier, Kane volunteered to take it once more. Unusually, Kane missed the opportunity to set the record for most goals scored by England by blazing the ball well over the bar.

Through a Kane penalty, England had gotten back into the game and now had a second chance to tie the score. They were eliminated from the World Cup due to the miss one stage earlier than in 2018.

In between the spot-kicks, Oliver Giroud‘s header had given France an advantage that proved decisive as they advanced to last-four.
