Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez wins World Cup 2022 Young Player of the Tournament, Messi reacts

Enzo Fernandez, a midfielder for Benfica and Argentina, has been named the best young player at the 2022 World Cup.

The World Cup 2022’s Best Young Player of the Tournament honor went to the midfielder, who is 21 years old. As Argentina won the World Cup for a third time, the Benfica starlet participated in all seven of La Albiceleste’s contests in Qatar.

After a strong tournament, Fernandez triumphed over rivals Jude Bellingham, Goncalo Ramos, and Aurelien Tchouameni to win the prize. The young player, who only made his international debut in September, earned a spot in the starting lineup in Qatar after coming off the bench to score an incredible goal in the group-stage victory over Mexico.

After Mexico’s victory, Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi was all praise for Fernandez.

“I know Enzo very well, here from the national team and I also played against him in the Champions League,” he told reporters afterwards. “He deserves it, because he’s a spectacular kid and a very important player for us.”
