Omonia Nicosia 2-3 Man Utd: Substitutes Rashford and Martial save the day

Rashford and Martial

Manchester United came from behind in the second half to defeat Omonia Nicosia 3-2 in the Europa League, avoiding an embarrassing loss.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who both scored after coming off the bench, saved Manchester United’s face by helping their team secure a victory in Cyprus.

Omonia Nicosia, fourth in the Cypriot league and managed by former Celtic manager Neil Lennon, led 1-0 at halftime after a quick break after a Manchester United corner resulted in Karim Ansarifard scoring.

Erik ten Haag, who fielded a strong team that included Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro, responded by bringing on Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, and it was Rashford who started the comeback with a cool finish before fellow substitute Anthony Martial put the visitors ahead.

Rashford made it 3-1 to finish off a strong individual performance, but Nikolas Panayiotou forced United to maintain focus in the closing minutes after cutting the deficit.

On a discouraging night for Ronaldo, which culminated in a jaw-dropping miss that hit the post despite the goal gaping from six yards out, he failed to score his 700th career goal, despite his obvious desire to impress.

United are currently enjoying themselves in Group E after back-to-back victories, following a 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in their opening match.
