EPL: Wolves lose in a thriller 2-3 game against Brighton at Molineux

In a thrilling match at Molineux, Pascal Gross’ late goal gave in-form Brighton a remarkable 3-2 victory against 10-man Wolves.

Adam Lallana gave Brighton the early advantage, but Goncalo Guedes quickly equalized, and Wolves really took the lead when Ruben Neves converted a penalty after Lewis Dunk was fouled. But it was Kaoru Mitoma who made the difference late in the first half.

His headed equalizer was swiftly followed by Nelson Semedo‘s dismissal after being outmanoeuvred by Mitoma. Wolves fought valiantly in the second half after announcing Julen Lopetegui as their new manager prior to kickoff, but Gross finally broke down their defense.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team moves up to the top six with the three points, passing Graham Potter’s Chelsea. On November 14, Lopetegui will assume leadership at Molineux. He will be well aware of the scope of his task. Wolves are still only one position away from the bottom of the Premier League standings.

How Brighton defeated Wolves

After beating Chelsea the previous time around, Brighton entered the game in high spirits, and that was evident in the assurance with which they played. Leandro Trossard’s pass allowed Lallana to finish past Jose Sa as they ripped Wolves apart in the first half.

Wolves might have faltered as a result, but they quickly equalized when Guedes carried the ball all the way and beat Robert Sanchez with a tenacious run from the right. Following his summer transfer from Valencia, it was his first goal for the team.

Lewis Dunk was found to have committed a handball offense after deflecting Daniel Podence’s cross, giving Wolves credit for their perseverance despite their somewhat disorganized appearance. Neves scored from the penalty spot after a protracted VAR review.

A weaker squad would have been taken aback by how far behind they suddenly found themselves. Instead, Brighton persisted in playing the better football, and Mitoma outjumped Semedo late in the first half to equalize following superb work by the steadfast Lallana.

Although it was his first goal for Brighton, the Japan international’s performance wasn’t very strong. Then, right after that, Semedo was taken off guard by his exquisite first touch, and the full-back resorted to bringing him down just outside the box. It was awkward. It was red.

In the second half, the Seagulls had to remain patient as the Wolves defended tenaciously while creating a threat on the break thanks to replacement Adama Traore, who forced a superb stop from Sanchez. Gross, however, came in first with a strong net finish. Belief has great power.
