For Sunday’s match against Fulham, Cristiano Ronaldo did not travel to London with the Manchester United team.
The 38-year-old was unable to play in their Carabao Cup win against Aston Villa in midweek due to illness, and manager Erik ten Hag stated ahead of the game that he was unsure if Ronaldo would be able to recover in time for the weekend.
Despite having previously had a falling out with Ten Hag, Ronaldo has played for United 16 times this season across all competitions, but it appears that he has played his final match for the team before the World Cup.
Ronaldo wasn’t in the traveling party, according to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, corroborating earlier claims that he had skipped training at Carrington earlier in the day.
Ronaldo’s absence leaves the Red Devils with a somewhat thin attack, even though he hasn’t scored for United this season and was benched after refusing to play against Tottenham. Jadon Sancho has also been having fitness issues, and Antony is still questionable for the game, despite Anthony Martial’s midweek return to the starting lineup.
The World Cup roster for Portugal has been finalized, and Ronaldo will almost certainly start at center field against Nigeria on November 17.
