Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino, has revealed what striker Christopher Nkunku told him about a return to the Blues’ squad.
The French forward sustained injury in the final game of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America.
Nkunku collided with German defender Mats Hummels during the game against Borussia Dortmund.
Pochettino said that the player has already formed him that he wants to return to action after the international break which starts after this weekend’s matches.
“Nkunku told me: ‘coach, I want to be ready after the international break against Newcastle,” he told reporters on Friday.
“It’s close. He’s doing really, really well. We are so happy with Christopher in his recovery, very professional”.
Chelsea will take on Manchester City at Stamford Bridge by 5pm on Sunday.
