Man City enters this match having previously played friendlies against Girona, their sister club, which they won 2-0. Erling Haaland, who was not involved in the World Cup action, resumed scoring goals as usual. Involved as well and contributing to the outcome was Kevin De Bruyne.

Liverpool competed in two friendly matches, losing to Lyon while winning against AC Milan. Darwin Nunez, a high-profile summer acquisition who returned early after Uruguay’s early World Cup exit, scored against Milan. The goal for Mohamed Salah and company is to defeat City and advance to the next stage of the competition.
