Antonio Rudiger bore the scars of a hard-fought game, but his effort is said to have required 20 stitches.
Five minutes into stoppage time, the Real Madrid defender scored his team’s equaliser against Shakhtar Donetsk and was left in a bloody mess.
According to reports in Spain, Rudiger will be examined for any fractures after the head-on collision with Shakhtar goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin. Rudiger reportedly required 20 stitches.
Posting from Real’s plane journey home, he wrote on Instagram: “We alive” along with a picture of his bandaged head.
In a separate post, he also wrote: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I am okay – thanks for all your messages.”
However, Celtic will benefit from the 1-1 draw in their quest to advance to the Europa League.
The Scottish team was eliminated from the Champions League after losing to RB Leipzig at home by a score of 2-0 thanks to goals from Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg.
Despite only earning one point from their four group games, Celtic is still four points behind Shakhtar, who they will host on October 25.
