AFCON 2023Q: CAF postpones Super Eagles vs Guinea-Bissau clash

Super Eagles

The Confederation of African Football has postponed the Super Eagles of Nigeria vs. Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying doubleheader that was scheduled to take place in September.

The new date for the competitions is going to be in March of 2023.

KemiFilani had earlier reported that CAF has already decided to move the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to January 2024.  The decision was made due to the unfavourable weather condition in Cote d’Ivoire during the summer.

The biennial competition had been slated to take place in June 2023.

In order to give the five African teams competing in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup more time to prepare, CAF decided to postpone the qualifying rounds.  The teams will now play friendlies prior to the World Cup during the international window in September.

With six points from two games, the Super Eagles are in first place in Group A of the 2023 AFCON.

The other teams in their qualifying group are Sierra Leone and Sao Tome.
