It’s the best possible news for England – Keira Walsh returns to the starting XI today after being stretchered off against Denmark just 10 days ago.
There were fears of something serious – a potential ACL injury that is playing women’s football – but Walsh has made a speedy return and, as Wiegman said yesterday, has recovered from training well enough to start in a crucial last 16 tie with Nigeria in Brisbane.
The question will be whether the injury has a knock on effect for Walsh in terms of play and fitness – but her presence even when not 100 per cent is a huge boost for the Lionesses.
It appears Wiegman is sticking with her new 3-5-2 formation as well, with Walsh the only change, replacing Zelem.
