Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has revealed why he graced Wednesday’s event which saw former vice president Atiku Abubakar declare his intention to contest the 2023 presidency.
According to him, politics is not war, adding that he plays it differently which was why he was at the former VP’s declaration ceremony.
Peter Obi, who was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election, said this while speaking on Channels Television.
He said, “This is a new politics. I play politics differently. For me, politics is not a war. It’s a relationship.
“Atiku is my leader, my boss and a senior brother. If he invites me for anything I will attend.
“Aspiring (for the presidency), does not say I should not keep my relationships very cordial.
“I’m aspiring. Remember, I always say it, Atiku is a unifier. He believes in Nigeria. He’s a good man. And anytime he invites me for anything, I will be there.”
Peter Obi had on Thursday informed Anambra Traditional Rulers that he would be contesting the 2023 presidency.
”My job here is simple. It’s to inform you as my own fathers that I will be contesting, aspiring for the post of President of Nigeria,” he said.
On the coming election, the former governor stated that it will not go down well with Nigerians if the election doesn’t go well.
“This next election will determine the future of Nigeria. It will not go well with Nigerians if the election does not go well. Nigeria is more important than all of us, we must ensure that we build a better place for us all,” he said.
