Abia State election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia has upheld the victory of Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 18 House of Assembly election in Abia.
While upholding the victory of Mr. Iheonunekwu, the tribunal dismissed the prayers sought by Mr. Innocent Uruakpa, the Labour Party candidate, for lack of merit.
The three-man tribunal led by Hon Justice Abubakar Idris Kutigi while delivering its judgement, said that the petitioner could not prove his allegations that irregularities marred the election of Iheonunekwu.
It, therefore, upheld Iheonunekwu ‘s victory.
In his reaction, the member representing Isiala Ngwa North constituency, Iheonunekwu, described the ruling as sound and appreciated his constituents’ and other supporters’ belief in him throughout the litigation period.
Iheonunekwu further assured his Isiala Ngwa North constituents that his victory at the tribunal would spur him to work more in attracting projects to various communities that make up Isiala Ngwa North.
