The House of Representatives has adjourned plenary due to the ongoing nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
Accordingly, this allows the legislature’s leadership to urgently address the ongoing issues between organized labour and President Bola Tinubu-led federal government.
The decision to adjourn followed the consideration and adoption of a motion labelled “Matters of urgent public importance,” presented by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu. Representing Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State.
Kalu urged the leadership of the House to engage with organized labour promptly for the nation’s benefit.
Lawmakers, expressing concern for the nationwide hardships resulting from the strike, stated the necessity of a swift resolution.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen assured the public that the House’s leadership would promptly meet with its counterpart to address and prioritize the matter.
All scheduled items on the Order Paper, including bill considerations and motions, were suspended.
The House will reconvene on Thursday, hoping that urgent measures will be taken to resolve the dispute and alleviate the impact on the nation.
