Last month I published that Midnight Crew was on the verge of breaking up, well, they have sent me a press release to clear the air on the issue, read on!
Mike Abdul of Midnight Crew is regarded as the most featured gospel artiste
in Africa. With the release of his new single “Morire”, and the debut single
“Eze” from Pat, another member of the group. Some feel the award winning group
might be on the road to a break up.
The group, represented by Mike Abdul and Pat Uwaje-King however shed light
on the issue when they visited the Praiseworld Radio studios on April 13, 2013
via The Praise O’Clock Show with TOLA, explaining how Midnight Crew is set to
give better expression to the potentials of each individual while keeping the
parent brand.
“Midnight
Crew has always believed that if you are going to be in a group, make sure that
your group caters for the expression of all the members. And we also strongly
believe that it is possible to have individual expressions, and there is
nothing wrong with expressing those things that you have inside of you”, said Mike Abdul
“The kind of
brand Midnight Crew has may not contain everything each of the individuals has
to give. It is just good for you to allow for the members to freely express
themselves. Midnight Crew is still very intact as a group. I’m still a member
of Midnight Crew, the four of us are still very much members of Midnight Crew.”
The four members are currently in the United States as Midnight Crew on a
tour that will last till June, 2013; they have moved their three month Europe
tour till 2014.
When asked if their individual solo projects will in anyway distract the
collective passion from the group projects, Midnight Crew buttressed the fact
that the success of the individual projects brings collective success.
“Our
management has compared us to the Cocacola Company. There is no way Fanta or
Sprite affects Coke. As a matter of fact, the success of the others brings
glory to Cocalcola. So the Mike Abdul or Pat Uwaze-King brand will in turn
bring glory to the Midnight crew brand”
According to Pat, fondly referred to as Mama P of Africa “Midnight crew is very
huge. God is really doing his work with us. But sometimes we need to give room
for people to express themselves.”
“Sometimes,
some people say they just want the women in Midnight Crew, for instance Women
Conferences, but they can’t have us, because we locked everything down, but
right now we are about to open it all up, so each sector can have a piece of
all of us”.
So there you have it, they are NOT breaking up – yet!
