The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has charged the troops to avoid distractions but remain disciplined and focused on their mission.
In a statement on Saturday, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, said the Chief of Army Staff stated this during his operational tour of the North East theatre of operations in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
According to him, General Lagbaja encouraged the troops to communicate their concerns through appropriate channels freely, guaranteeing they would always be granted an audience and accorded proper attention.
He said the COAS, who was briefed by the Commander Sector 2, Maj Gen Lander Saraso, on the security situation in Yobe state and ongoing clearance operations code named “Operation Desert Sanity” to rid the Timbuktu Triangle of insurgents.
He said the COAS extolled the troops for their service to the nation and the successes of the ongoing operations and assured the troops that the challenges currently experienced in the sector will be given prompt and due attention.
Gen Lagbaja paid a visit to officers and soldiers who were wounded in action and received medical attention at the Level ll Field Hospital, Damaturu.
Gen Lagbaja reassured them of the Army Headquarters intervention in ensuring that they were given adequate medical attention, including medical evacuation for overseas treatment.
“The COAS later proceeded to inspect and assess the level of work at the new Army Barracks under construction in Damaturu.” The statement further added
