Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on the British Government to support the entrenchment of cattle ranching over nomadic system.
Ortom stated this when he was paid a courtesy call by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mrs. Catriona Laing, at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi.
Requesting for support for ranching, Ortom stated that cattle rearing in the nomadic way has led to a situation whereby cattle is now competing with schools, airports and roads for space.
He added that the people of Benue have suffered terribly at the hands of militia herdsmen who have rendered many woman and children into seeking shelter at Internally Displaced Persons camps.
Speaking, Mrs. Laing stated that her mission in the state was to get first hand information for the British government on the farmer-herders crisis.
