The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied arresting Aisha Ahmad, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The secret agency insisted it did not pick up any current or former official of the apex bank in the last 48 hours.
The DSS disclosed this in tweet posted on Thursday.
Reports of Ahmad’s alleged arrest went viral on social media earlier in the day.
The reports suggested that she was arrested over an alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris, Titan Trust, and Union banks.
The spokesman of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, did not respond to inquiries when our correspondent contacted earlier on the matter.
However, tweeting on Thursday night, the DSS wrote, “The DSS did not, in the last 48 hours, arrest any former or present official of the CBN.”
The CBN and some of its former senior officials have been under scrutiny since the apex bank’s former governor, Godwin Emefiele, was suspended and subsequently arrested.
He is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged financial impropriety during his tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
