The Bayelsa State Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Douye Diri, is coasting to victory as he secured victory in six Local Government Areas in the ongoing gubernatorial elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced at the collation centre in Yenogoa, the state capital.
This followed the collation of results from the Southern Ijaw LG, where the governor polled 24,685 votes to defeat his closest contender, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 18,174 votes.
Kemi Filani News recalls that the State Returning Officer for the Saturday gubernatorial poll, Prof Faruq Kuta, earlier declared Diri winner of the election in Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw LGAs.
APC’s Timipre also won in Nembe and Brass Local Government LGAs.
The Returning Officer is expected to announce the election winner shortly.
