Nigeria Air to commence operations with three lease aircraft made by Airbus and Boeing after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) granted it approval.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, announced this Wednesday while briefing State House reporters after the federal cabinet meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Sirika said the national carrier would begin with three aircraft, adding that it’s open to investment from any of the country’s airlines, particularly the 51 per cent shares set aside for Nigerians.

He further stated that Nigeria Air would solely run domestic routes for now and would expand into regional and intercontinental routes.

The minister didn’t disclose when the company would start its operations, saying “we will announce commencement soon.”

It would be recalled that Nigeria Air was unveiled at the Farnborough Air Show in England in July 2018.
