Abiodun Ilori, 51, was docked in a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a party in Lekki and stealing liquor worth N16.1 million.

Ilori, who has no fixed address, is accused of two counts of conspiracy and theft.

According to the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Magaji Haruna, Ilori and others at large committed the crime on December 17, 2022 in Jewel Aeda Hall, located at No 105, Hakeem Dickson Link Road, Lekki, Lagos.

According to Haruna, Ilori and his associates allegedly dressed as waiters to gain entry to a party to which they were not invited and stole liquor worth 16.1 million from Mr Innocent Mbaka.

He stated that Ilori and others stole Glenfiddich, Clase Azul Tequila, Louis Roederer Brut Champagne, Don Julio 1942, Laurent Perrier Demi-Sec, Veuve Clicquot Brut all worth N16.1 million.

The offence, Haruna said, contravened the provisions of sections 280 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Ilori, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 411 stipulates two years imprisonment for the offence of conspiracy while 280 stipulates seven years for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.Y. Adefope, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Adefope adjourned the case until Feb. 1 for substantive trial. (NAN)
