A Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja remanded Abba Muhammed, 24, in Suleja Correctional Facility on Wednesday for allegedly stealing two solar panels worth N200,000.

The order was issued by Judge Saminu Suleiman after the defendant, who was arraigned on a count of theft, pleaded.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Chinedu Ogale, told the court that the complainant, Muhammed Rufai, a security guard attached to an estate within MD Abubakar Barrack, Dei-Dei, Abuja, reported the matter on January 5 to the above-mentioned barrack police post.

Ogale also claimed that the defendant broke into the estate, which was under construction, on January 1 around 8 a.m. and stole the solar system panels.

He also said that the defendant thereafter took the items to Pantaker market, Dei-Dei and sold the m to one Musa, whose surname is unknown .

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant sold the panels to Musa who is currently at large, for N15,000.

He said that during police interrogation, the defendant confessed to the crime.

According to him, the offence contravened the provision of Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge therefore ordered his remand and adjourned the matter until Jan. 24, for hearing (NAN)
