25-year-old security guard docked for alleged negligence to duty

stealing liquor worth N16.1m

Ishiya Musa, a 25-year-old security guard, was charged on Wednesday in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, with theft in a church as a result of alleged negligence to duty.

According to the prosecution’s attorney, Abdullahi Tanko, the incident was reported to the police on January 18 by the complainant, Jephson Emmanuel of the House of Truth Church in Kuje, Abuja.

According to Tanko, the complainant hired the defendant to work as a security guard at his church, but on January 8 the defendant did not show up for duty.

He said that his absence from work gave one Ibrahim Abdullahi the opportunity to break into the church to steal one speaker, six microphones, two microphone receivers, one drum seater, plugs and some cable wires.

He said that all that was stolen by Abdullahi was valued at N400,000.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 196 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Abdullahi Abdulkarim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.

Abdulkarim said that the surety must reside within the FCT and therefore adjourned the case until March 22 for hearing. (NAN)
