The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have come and gone, but there are some red carpet fashion statements made by celebrities that we will never forget.

On Tuesday, September 12, the VMAs were held in order to honor the year’s top musicians and music videos. Beginning at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST, the ceremonial ceremony broadcast live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Nicki Minaj, who also performed, served as the VMA host for a second year running.

Demi Lovato, Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Fall Out Boy, Karol G, Kelsea Ballerini, Mneskin, Reneé Rapp, Shakira, Sabrina Carpenter, and Future, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion also performed.

Taylor Swift, who received the most nominations this year with eight, also won the most awards for the night.

While the the VMAs is known for pulling out some memorable fashion moments, such as Lady Gaga’s iconic meat dress, here are the most iconic fashion appearances for the 2023 MTV VMAs red carpet.

With eight nominations totaling around 2022’s “Anti-Hero,” Taylor Swift lead the nominees this year in both nominations and wins. She took home seven of her eight major honors, although Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” won Best Editing. SZA’s “Kill Bill,” one of her six overall nominations, lost the Video of the Year award to the Midnights song. Beyoncé received one nomination for Artist of the Year last year despite not releasing any full music videos for Renaissance.

This year, Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Nicki Minaj were all nominated for numerous awards, while the most recent crop of first-time nominations also includes Best New Artist winner Ice Spice, Boygenius, GloRilla, Flo Milli, and others.

Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Diddy, and Janelle Monáe were returning nominees for 2023, too.
