Nigerian celebrity actor, Yul Edochie, has been an object of scrutiny among many Nigerian social media users, following his controversial second marriage, and his relatively desperate move to make ends meet, by trying different professions in recent times.
The Nollywood actor-turned realtor, turned social media influencer, and now a self acclaimed “man of God,” is currently making the rounds online for starting his web church series on YouTube.
While some admire his talent and charisma on screen, others question the motivations behind his actions off-screen. The actor, known for his roles in Nollywood films, has faced accusations of being a “confused man,” an “attention-seeking whore,” or even a “mercenary.” For context, a mercenary is “One who is primarily concerned with making money at the expense of ethics.”
One of the accusations made against Edochie is that he acts in a frantic attempt to make money.
Some critics argue that the actor’s career choices, from acting to social media influencing to opening a church, reflect a quest for financial gain rather than a commitment to his craft. While it’s not uncommon for actors to explore various opportunities, the perception of Edochie as a “mercenary” raises questions about the balance between artistic integrity and financial success.
One of such critics is popular Instagram user, Cutie_Julls, who alleged that Edochie, who relocated to Abuja with his second wife, Judy has relocated back to Enugu, after being snubbed by President Tinubu.
Kemi Filani recalls that Edochie had earlier moved to Abuja and started a social media campaign support for President Tinubu, however, he got snubbed several times by the presidency.
In addition, he has been accused of acting vindictively against his first wife; some have even said that he was unable to end their marriage amicably.
Furthermore, rumors state that Judy, Edochie’s second wife, was “snatched” from her first husband, one Mr. Obasi. These private issues have sparked morality and ethics debates, leading people to wonder if Edochie is acting as someone who actually wants to be happy or if he is just someone who is looking for attention.
Kemi Filani News earlier reported that Edochie broke the internet after clips of his online church hit the nets. Part of It reads; “On Sunday, the movie star held his first church service where he recounted how God called him and the exchanges they had. He revealed that being a Minister of God has always been in him, but he was skeptical of it and thought it wasn’t time. He disclosed the conversation he had with God, pointing out how he doesn’t have a church or any physical structure to preach the gospel, but God reminded him that he has a huge number of followers on all his social media platforms. Yul noted how God created us for his purpose and as such, he urged his followers to submit themselves to Him.”
All these have sparked mixed reactions about the actor. Despite differences in viewpoints regarding Yul Edochie, it’s critical to approach these debates with an open mind. Celebrities are frequently the subject of intense scrutiny, and narratives can be influenced by a number of things, such as sensationalism and personal prejudices.
