“Once more, my deepest gratitude to the Grammy Academy for this incredible honor. A HUGE congrats to the talented African artists who were nominated alongside me. The true win lies in sharing these moments with you all at my shows and expressing it through my music”.
Kemi Filani reported on Friday that Burna Boy had bagged four nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
He received nominations for “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” for Best Melodic Rap Performance, “I Told Them…” for Best Global Music Album, “Alone” for Best Global Music Performance, and “City Boys” for Best African Music Performance.
His four nominations make him the most nominated Nigerian artist in the 66th Grammy Awards nominations list.
The Recording Academy, the organizers of the Grammy Awards, in a statement on their website, had crowned Burna Boy as the biggest artist in Africa.
In their article, they described the artist as the biggest in Africa, as they stated that he is ‘firmly in his imperial era”, with his various top collaborations.
According to the article, there is not a bigger star in Afrobeats or even the whole of Africa itself than Burna Boy.
Weeks back, Burna Boy had angered many with his comment on Afrobeats in Nigeria.
The singer, in an interview, avowed that 90 percent of Afrobeat songs lack real-life experience and substance.
He explained further by saying that artists aren’t saying anything worthwhile as he took a swipe at them over their lyrics.
While receiving his award, his junior colleague Rema took a shot at him for his disrespectful statement.
He stated that no matter what Burna Boy calls Afrobeats, they would all meet at Afrobeats award shows.
