Nigerian award-winning singer, Rema has thrown a subtle shade at his senior colleague, Burna Boy at the just concluded Headies Awards.
Kemi Filani reported days back that Burna Boy had angered many with his comment on Afrobeats in Nigeria.
The singer, in an interview, avowed that 90 percent of Afrobeat songs lack real-life experience and substance.
According to him, many artists don’t have real-life experience, hence, why their songs lack substances.
He explained that in many of the songs, artists aren’t saying anything worthwhile and are only singing about the good life or having a great time, which mostly isn’t the case in real life.
While receiving his award, Rema took a shot at the singer for his disrespectful statement.
He stated that no matter what Burna Boy calls Afrobeats, they would all meet at Afrobeats award shows.
“I am not here because of if the award, I’m here because we need to support our institutions.
We are in a very sensitive period that if we don’t give attention to our institutions, we will miss this chance that we have.
Be it Afro Rave or Afro anything. We go all jam for Afrobeats award”.
Burna Boy is an arrogant obnoxious monster who hasn’t done anything remotely great” Actor Patrick Doyle blasts Burna Boy
Recall that Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle had expressed his opinion about famous Afrobeat artist Burna Boy.
According to him, the credit that they were giving to Burna Boy was completely underserved. This is because he believes that great artists like Sunny Ade, Fela Anikulapo, Mabel Fashek, and others have already cleared the thorny road of music.
He also advised Modern Artists on their need to be humble and respectful of their predecessors.
He ended his writing by saying that people should not contribute to the creation of an arrogant and obnoxious monster.
