Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu: Everything to know about the late Olowu of Owu
The latest reports have announced the death of Oba Adegboyega Dosumu, the Olowu of Owu kingdom.
According to the reports, the late Olowu of Owu died in the Abeokuta area of Ogun state after a brief illness.
The death of the Oba Adegboyega Dosumu comes a few days after the death of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade, the Soun of Ogbomosho.
For many who may not know, Oba Adegboyega Dosumu, the now late Olowu of Owu, played a prominent role in the growth of the Nigerian movie industry and was the producer of the popular TV series The Village headmaster.
Since the announcement of his death, prominent figures within and outside Nigeria have been sending message of condolences to the people of Owu kingdom.
One of the prominent figures from the Owu kingdom is former President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, who rule Nigeria as a democratic leader for eight years.

Adegboyega Dosumu’s biography
There is no precise date as to when Oba Adegboyega Dosumu was born as some reports claim he was born in 1941 to his father, Prince Benjamin Okelana Dosunmu, who was the third son of the late Adesunmbo Dosunmu, Amororo I, who was the Olowu between 1918 and 1924.
One Adegboyega Dosumu was a Nigerian by birth, and the report suggests he was 80 years old until his death in December 2021.
Education
Oba Adesanya attended Owu Baptist Day School, Abeokuta, for his Primary Education and later proceeded to the Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta.
The Olowu of Owu eventually graduated from King’s College, Lagos, in 1956, after which he gained admission to Hendon College of Technology in London, where he bagged a degree in Drama and Television Production. The late monarch also holds a BSc in Theology from the Landmark Baptist College, Tennessee, the USA.
Career
Before becoming the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega worked in the Nigerian Civil Service as a Clerk Grade-II under the Nigerian Railway Corporation, located in Ebute Metta, area of Lagos state.
He was at the NRC for two years and later went on to join a broadcasting organisation where he rose to become the Head of Drama Department.
Oba Dosunmu would later become a Broadcaster at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation NBC, where he again became the Head of Drama Department.
The late Olowu of Owu is credited as the producer of a Popular Nigerian TV soap, The Village Headmaster, Nigeria’s longest-running popular TV series.
However, in 1975, Oba Adegboyega left the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to start a private film production outfit named Starline Films Limited and was able to produced a movie titled Dinner with the Devil, which put him in the limelight in 1974.
Aside from being a media personnel, the late Olowu of Owu was a politician before he became king; he once served as the Chairman of Abeokuta Local Government.
In July 2005, Adegboyega Dosumu was appointed the Olowu of Owu Kingdom and was awarded the Commander of the Order of Niger, CON by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Until his death Oba Adegboyega Dosumu was married to Mrs Olatunbosun Dosumu.
