Latrell Sprewell was born on September 8, 1970, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to his parents, Latoska Field and Pamela Sprewell. He went to Washington High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Later, he attended the University of Alabama, where he was part of the college basketball team. His college teammates became popular NBA players like Jason Caffey, James Robinson, and Robert Horry.

Latrell Sprewell started his career in 1992 when he was the 24th overall NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. He made an immediate impact by playing 69 games and averaging 15.4 points per game. Over the next few years, his performance improved significantly, and he played for the Western Conference All-Star team in 1994, 1995, and 1997.
His fame started deteriorating when he attacked the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, P. J. Carlesimo, in one of the practice matches. Sprewell was offended by some of the comments made by the coach. He choked the coach for more than ten seconds before his teammates and the assistant coach pulled him over.
Sprewell paid a high price for the incident as he was suspended for ten games, and later the Golden State Warriors ended his three years contract. The NBA also suspended him for over a year, which made him out of the league for more than 60 matches.
After his suspension, he was traded to the New York Knicks. Initially, he stayed on the bench, but later, he played for the team. New Year Knocks reached the finals but lost to San Antonio Spurs in the final match. The Knicks extended his contract for another five years.
