Soros’s first occupation was as a wholesaler, where he worked as a driven salesperson after a lack of a job since his graduation. Before settling for a job in a bank in 1954, at Singer and Friedlander, he struggled to pass interviews as many employers disgraced him. He moiled at his workplace as a mere clerk, wherein in 1956; he shifted to New York to work for F.M. Mayer as an arbitrage merchant up to 1959. He continued his career at Wertheim & Co, where he worked as an analyst.
Between 1963 and 1969, George worked at Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder firm as the vice president, where he invested a lot, making more profit for the company. He launched Soros Fund Management in 1970 and became the CEO, before that, he had founded yet another firm in the previous year, which at some point became difficult for him to manage the two. After renaming one of his funds to ‘Quantum Fund,’ the companies continued to grow, earning him a lot, which augmented his net worth.
Being a businessman and an investor he involved himself in other businesses like; the pound short in 1992 which dealt with fumigating pounds for months and also the Société Générale insider trade in 1988 where the owner approached him to buy the shares.
