Nigerians now have the chance to apply for a scholarship worth up to N76 million ($100,000) offered by the University of Ottawa in Canada.
Many young people in Nigeria have always been concerned with the need to obtain an education and experience other cultures. There have been calls for international students’ scholarship programmes at foreign institutions, particularly those in North America.
The University of Ottawa announced a new four-year entrance and excellence scholarship for African students who have just been admitted to English-language undergraduate engineering, science, or social science programmes, worth up to $100,000.
University of Ottawa said that “this renewable scholarship is offered to citizens of African countries who are newly admitted to one of the eligible undergraduate programs offered in English by the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences.”
It added that “depending on their average, eligible students could receive an excellence scholarship over four years.
“Totaling more than $40.5 million, our undergraduate international scholarship and financial aid program remains among the most generous at any major Canadian university.”
It recognizes not only pre-university academic achievements, but also accomplishments during each term of full-time study. African students enrolled in English-language programmes will have much easier access to three faculties’ worth of programmes thanks to the scholarship’s sizable tuition reduction.
It opined that “to help students throughout the application process, the University of Ottawa will host several virtual information sessions to answer questions and advise prospective students.”
More than 46,800 intelligent and motivated people, including more than 9,300 students from 145 different countries, call the University of Ottawa home.
