FC Porto have provided an update on Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi’s injury suffered on Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.
Sérgio Conceiço’s team won the match 2-1 to finish first in their group.
FC Porto, the Portuguese Primera Liga champions, advanced to the UEFA Champions League last 16 with a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid of Spain’s La Liga on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi started the game but was forced to leave in the 53rd minute due to injury.
Taremi scored the first goal in the fifth minute, and Estaquio made it 2-0 just before halftime.
After suffering an injury and being unable to continue the match, Nigeria’s international was replaced by Brazilian international Wendell.
Sanusi was injured and had to leave the game eight minutes after the break.
Marcano scored an own goal to ensure that Porto finished first in the group with 12 points from six games.
“Nigerian defender was substituted in the 53rd minute. Zaidu, who left supported by his teammates in the 53rd minute of the game against Atlético de Madrid, having replaced Wendell, presented muscle complaints in the left adductor and will be evaluated by the clinical department,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.
The 25-year-old could miss Porto’s league clash against Pacos de Ferreira this weekend.
Zaidu Sanusi also remains a doubt for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendly against Portugal in Lisbon on November 17.
