Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed the mistake Nigeria made in the AFCON semi-final game against Algeria last night.
The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Algerians. An own goal by Williams Troost-Ekong gave Algeria the lead in the first half which was leveled up by Odion Ighalo in the second half from a spot kick given by VAR.
However, a last minute stunning free-kick from Mahrez sent the Algerians into their first AFCON final since winning the tournament on home soil in 1990.
Speaking after the game, Gernot Rohr stated that his side lost because they relaxed towards the end of 90 minutes because they wanted to force Algeria into extra-time.
“It was a big fight until the last minute, it was a wonderful match, I think my players wanted it to go to extra time thinking Algeria were more tired.
“We scored an own goal, unlucky, but we have come back every time in this tournament and this time we came back on a penalty. But a wonderful free kick from a football genius made the difference.”
