‘We are taking this matter seriously’ – Man Utd issue statement on Antony allegations

Manchester United on Wednesday, released a statement on the allegations of domestic abuse made against their play Antony.

The Premier League club had stayed silent after the accusations were made by Antony’s ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin in June.

Cavallin claimed the Brazilian forward threatened to throw her out of a speeding car, cut her finger and punched her breast implant.

Antony had been called up by Brazil for their upcoming internationals but after Brazilian website UOL published Cavallin’s account, the winger was dropped from the squad.

The club finally released a statement on their official website on Wednesday, which read: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries.

“Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments. As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”
