Following his team’s impressive 2-0 win over Botswana on Thursday night, Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has harsh words for the Nigerian media.
KemiFilani recalls that the reigning champions at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, which is currently taking place in Morocco, received harsh criticism for their poor performance in their opening match against South Africa.
However, Waldrum’s team recovered and played well against the Mares.
After receiving a lovely pass from tenacious midfielder Halimat Ayinde, Onumonu gave the Super Falcons the lead in the 21st minute when she outran her defenders and put the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper, Maitumelo Bosija.
Substitute Three minutes after the half, Christy Ucheibe scored to put Botswana out of the match.
“Media in Nigeria is very negative. We don’t want distraction in our team,” Waldrum said at the post match press conference.
“We are trying to qualify for the World Cup and the teams must be isolated.”
On Sunday, the Super Falcons’ final group game will be against Burundi.
