WAFCON 2022: Osimhen sends message to Asisat, Super Falcons

Victor Osimhen, a striker for the Super Eagles and Napoli, has backed the Super Falcons to win the 2018 CAF Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco and set a new record.

Hosts Morocco and rookie Burkina Faso will square off in the opening match of the 2022 competition today (Saturday).

Monday in Rabat will see the Falcons, the defending champions, face Banyana Banyana.

The Falcons prevailed 4-3 on penalties in the final of the 2018 tournament in Ghana after the teams last faced off.

The South Africans also defeated the Falcons 4-2 at the 2021 Aishat Buhari Cup in the Mobolaji Johnson stadium, formerly Onikan.

And looking ahead to the start of the competition, Osimhen also predicted that Asisat Oshoala, a star striker for Barcelona, would win the top scorer award.

Osimhen posted on his Twitter account, “Super falcons for the WIN and highest Goalscorer @AsisatOshoala,”

The 2022 WAFCON will be used as a qualifying event for the women’s world cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2019.

The Falcons have never missed a World Cup since it began in China in 1991.
