Victor Osimhen will serve as Napoli’s designated penalty taker for the upcoming campaign, the club has announced.
This comes after the Nigerian scored from the penalty spot in the Partenopei’s 1-1 preseason draw with Real Mallorca on Sunday.
Napoli responded to his goal on Twitter, writing, “Osimhen!!! 1-0. But the most important thing: He’s gonna be our penalty kicker this season.”
The club’s penalty taker during the previous campaign was Italian playmaker Lorenzo Insigne. Insigne, on the other hand, has left Napoli to join Major League Soccer club Toronto FC.
Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in the French Ligue 1, has made 62 appearances and scored 28 goals. Osimhen made 27 appearances and logged 1,992 minutes of playing time in Serie A last season.
With 14 goals and two assists, he was tied for eighth in the Serie A scoring charts.
