Wednesday night’s Champions League group stage matches came to a close with decisive victories for Barcelona, Napoli, and Ajax.
Barcelona were the biggest winners on Wednesday night, scoring five goals against Viktoria Plzen of Czech Republic at Camp Nou. For the Catalans, Robert Lewandowski made his Champions League debut, and he did so with a decisive hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are left smarting and Tottenham were relieved on a challenging night. Victor Osimhen missed a first-half penalty after hitting the post seconds after the game’s opening kickoff. However, Napoli had already taken the lead through a Piotr Zielinski penalty at that point.
Also, Rangers was easily defeated by Ajax in Group A’s opening match. The Scottish team was playing in its first Champions League group match in 12 years when Edson Alvarez, a summer target of Chelsea, scored inside the opening 20 minutes to put them behind.
