UEFA speaks on allowing Argentina play in next UEFA Nations League

UEFA has denied reports that it has granted Argentina a spot to play in the UEFA Nations League.

The report came shortly after the conclusion of the 2019 COPA America tournament which was hosted and won by Brazil.

Brazil emerged Champions after twelve years by beating Argentina in the semi-final and Peru in the final.

Immediately after the tournament was concluded, the report stated that Argentina, who had a tempestuous COPA America campaign, had been granted a spot to play in the UEFA Nations League.

The report has now been debunked by UEFA who issued a swift response saying:

“There is no truth whatsoever in the suggestion that Argentina has been asked to participate in UEFA competitions, nor to become a member of UEFA.

“UEFA has never entered into any discussions on this matter and would never do so.

“However, in the spirit of friendship and camaraderie and as an inclusive organisation, UEFA will, of course, invite Argentina as special guests to watch any UEFA competition at any time.”

The maiden edition of the Nations League was won by Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
