For the 2028 and 2032 hosting of the Euros, UEFA has received three preliminary bid dossiers.
The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland jointly submitted a bid for the 2028 competition, and Turkey—which has never hosted a major tournament—also entered the running.
In a proposal, the football associations of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland pledged to host a “unrivaled” competition.
The English FA’s bid comes in the wake of harsh criticism for how it handled fan unrest at the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium; an independent review called it a “day of national shame.”
Turkey and Italy both submitted bids for the 2032 edition; Italy hasn’t served as the sole host of a major competition since the World Cup in 1990.
Final dossiers must be submitted by April 12th, 2023, before the hosts are selected in that year’s European autumn.
