Antonio Conte expressed regret over Tottenham Hotspur’s shocking 2-0 loss to Sporting CP on Tuesday night and acknowledged that his team could do better.
The Portuguese team moved to the top of Group D due to two late goals scored at Estádio José Alvalade.
After the game, Conte admitted to the press that he wasn’t impressed with his team’s play in the final ten minutes, saying: “A difficult result for sure, when you lose the game you’re not happy. I think that the game was in [the] balance in the second half and I think we could’ve scored and we tried to win the game but in the last ten minutes we can do much better.
“They scored from a corner and then we conceded the second goal after the 90th minute. I think it’s a pity but a difficult game for sure. We tried to get the win but then at the end we lost the game.”
Conte insisted that they would analyse both the positives and the negatives of the game, despite the manner of the loss and his obvious disappointment.
“We try to analyse the game very well with the players to understand what the positive things that we did were and what are the negative situations that we can improve for the future.
“For sure this level is a high level, the Champions League. Against Marseille was another tough game. Tonight was another tough game. We need to know that if we want to have the ambition to go to the next round we have to fight, we have to fight a lot, especially in this group because in this group I see a lot of balance between the teams.”
