After an impressive breakthrough season in the SPFL, Liverpool are set to make a move for Aberdeen left-back Calvin Ramsay.
According to Express Sport, the full-back could be purchased for as little as £3.5 million this summer. Jürgen Klopp was pleased with Kostas Tsimikas’ performance as Andy Robertson’s understudy last season, so it’s unclear what role Ramsay will play at Liverpool next season.
As a result, the 18-year-old could be on the verge of a loan move. The Scottish defender has only made 24 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, so Liverpool may want to give him more senior football experience before trusting him to challenge Andy Robertson.
Ramsay’s talents are sought by a number of clubs, including Liverpool. Leeds United, managed by Jesse Marsch, are also interested in signing Ramsay this summer, and the prospect of more first-team football in the wake of Junior Firpo’s underwhelming Premier League debut season could tempt Ramsay to join Leeds instead.
Liverpool’s desire to sign more young players this summer is reflected in the transfer rumor. Because Jürgen Klopp has an ageing squad on his hands, players like Jude Bellingham, Gavi, and Darwin Nuez are said to be of interest to the Reds. Signing such players would help Klopp’s illustrious Liverpool team to breathe new life.
The prospect of pursuing another young and inexpensive Scottish full-back will bring back fond memories for Liverpool supporters. Andy Robertson was brought to Liverpool in a similar manner in 2017, joining the Merseyside club for just £8 million from Hull City. In Ramsay, Klopp will be hoping to find another Scottish star.
