Jordi Alba has responded to the seemingly never-ending rumors that suggest his time at Barcelona may be coming to an end.
The left-back for Spain, who spent time in the renowned La Masia academy system as a teenager, relocated from Valencia to his Catalan roots in 2012. Since then, he has played a key role in several successful teams, but his future has also frequently been questioned. Serie A powerhouse Inter is rumored to have expressed interest in the 33-year-old over the summer.
Jordi Alba’s reaction
In response to those rumors, Alba has revealed to Mundo Deportivo where he envisions himself playing in the upcoming season and beyond: “As far as I am concerned, I feel qualified to continue here for many years. I think that when I’m playing I’m doing well and when I’m not playing I’ll support my team-mates and try to help the younger ones as much as I can. I want to continue performing well, I’ve been here at Barcelona for many years and my intention is to stay here.
“There has been talk for many years that I could go on loan or sign to another club. But my intention has always been to stay here. I am a cule, during these years I have worked hard for this club, then things will turn out for better or worse, but that will continue to be my intention until the end of the season and everything that remains on my contract.”
Alba has no need to think about accepting a fresh challenge elsewhere because he is committed to his contracts at Camp Nou through the summer of 2024.
Barcelona’s next fixture
Barcelona started the Spanish World Cup break two points ahead of Real Madrid in the Liga standings, and they will not play again until the December 31 derby matchup with their neighbors Espanyol.
