Arsenal have made their first bid for Ajax’s top defender Jurrien Timber.
According to The Athletic, the Gunners have table the sum of £30million for the Dutchman.
However, the Dutch club are demanding £50m to sell the 22-year-old highly regarded defender but there is “optimism that a compromise can be reached”.
Timber was expected to join Erik ten Hag at Manchester United but Arsenal have now emerged as a potential destination for the World Cup star.
He can play as a centre-back or right-back and has won 15 international caps for the Netherlands, making a total of 121 appearances for Ajax.
Arteta is now looking to bring in Timber to reinforce his defensive options ahead of next season where they will be engaged in both domestic and European competitions.
