Manchester United are looking at signing Atletico Madrid star João Felix in January.
The Red Devils have long been interested in the Portuguese attacker but have been unwilling to accept Atleti’s high asking price of more than £100 million.
According to Cadena SER, Atletico Madrid intends to transfer up to four players, including João Felix, during the January transfer window, but will also seek January replacements.
However, with the La Liga heavyweights exiting Europe this week, manager Diego Simeone may be forced to balance the books and sell to buy in the coming months.
Felix is thought to be at odds with Atleti manager Diego Simeone, who saw his team relegated to the bottom of their Champions League group after a 2-1 loss to FC Porto on Wednesday. Los Colchoneros will also miss out on the Europa League as a result of the defeat.
The 22-year-old made his debut for Benfica in 2018-19, securing a seven-year contract in Madrid, but his time in Spain has not lived up to expectations.
João Felix Stats for Atletico
The 23-cap international has appeared in 127 games for Atletico, scoring 31 goals and assisting on 18 others.
A transfer to the Premier League under highly respected coach Erik ten Hag could give a new lease on life.
