Transfer: Liverpool suffer major blow after Mbappe makes major decision

Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe’s comments that he is content to stay at Parc des Princes have dealt a serious blow to Liverpool’s chances of signing him.

Despite signing a new three-year contract with PSG in the summer, speculation about Mbappe’s future has persisted.

Mbappe reportedly became the highest-paid player in the world by staying with the French champions instead of moving to Real Madrid.

However, earlier this season, reports indicated that Mbappe was dissatisfied at PSG and eager to leave the team in the January transfer window.

It was stated that there was “completely broken” communication between the player and the French team.

Le Parisien, a French publication, reported that Mbappe felt “betrayed” by the PSG hierarchy and thought they had broken their promises to him when he signed his new contract.

Will Kylian Mbappe remain at PSG?

If Mbappe leaves PSG, Liverpool has been mentioned as a potential destination.

The French champions, according to Spanish publication Marca, would not be willing to sell Mbappe to Real Madrid, leaving Liverpool as the only other option for the forward.

But the France international now seems content at PSG, downplaying the prospect of him leaving the team.

“You can stay here [PSG] to have success,” Mbappe told Sports Illustrated.

“For us, it’s a big message because when I announced I would stay, a lot of things changed in the mentality of people. People started to say, ‘Yeah, we don’t need to go out. You don’t need to leave the country’.”

Mbappe added: “I’m not scared. I’m ready. I always talk about my ambition, what I want to do, and now it’s time.

“In Paris, the page is blank. What an opportunity! You have to think differently. Of course, it was easier to go to Madrid. But I have this ambition.

“I’m French. I’m a child of Paris, and to win in Paris, it’s something really special—really special. To write your name in the history of your country for life.”

Mbappe held talks with Liverpool

Liverpool fans who hoped Mbappe would move to Anfield will be disappointed by the 23-year-old’s most recent remarks.

Mbappe previously disclosed that, before switching from Monaco to PSG in 2017, he had discussions with Liverpool earlier in his career.

“We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit,” said Mbappe.

“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
