Transfer deadline: Erik ten Hag insists Cristiano Ronaldo ‘happy’ at Man Utd

Manchester United

Despite asking to leave during the summer, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is “happy” to stay at Old Trafford this season.

After United failed to qualify for the Champions League this season, Ronaldo asked the club to consider any offers that came in. It started a protracted transfer saga, and up until recently, Jorge Mendes, the agent, was still looking into options for a potential exit.

While Sporting CP and Napoli have come to the forefront more recently, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid were among those considering an approach before ruling themselves out.

But Ronaldo will at least stay at Old Trafford through the remainder of his contract as the summer transfer window closes.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has spoken to Ten Hag “several times,” according to Ten Hag.

The boss said, “We are on the same page. [He is happy to stay] otherwise he wouldn’t be here. From the start we said we planned with Ronaldo, we are happy with him, he’s happy to be here, and we want to make the season a success together.”
